Ambassador Shinichi Kitaoka is Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Deputy Permanent Representative of Japan to the United Nations. Previously he was a Professor of Political Science at the University of Tokyo and a Professor at Rikkyo University. Ambassador Kitaoka also has been a member of the Prime Minister's Task Force on Foreign Relations, Member of the 21st Century Committee for the Japan-China Friendship, and the Advisory Committee for Prime Minster Keizo Obuchi's "Vision of Japan in the 21st Century." He has received many awards, including the Yoshino Sakuzo Prize, the Yomiuri Prize for the Opinion Leader of the Year and the Suntory Prize for Liberal Arts. Ambassador Shinichi Kitaoka received both a B.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo. He has published many books and articles, including Jiminto: seiken-to no 38 nen (The Liberal Democratic Party of Japan: 38 Years in Power, 1995), Futsu no kunie (Toward a "Normal Country," 2000), and in English, "Is Nationalism Intensifying in Japan?: Focus on Recent Change in Security Policy," Journal of Japanese Trade and Industry (2002). |
