Rising U.S. Stakes in Africa

U.S. Representative Ed Royce
Former Chairman of U.S. House Subcommittee
on Africa (1997 – 2004)

During his tenure as Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Africa, Congressman Ed Royce has earned a distinguished reputation as one of our most serious and knowledgeable experts on Africa in our country. Rep. Royce has recently been named Chairman of the Subcommittee on International Terrorism and Nonproliferation. For several years now, there has been a growing realization that Africa's many challenges will increasingly impact the security and economic well being of the United States. Upon his recent return from Africa, please join us as he gives the World Affairs Council an overview of Africa and US interests.

Africa is a continent that:

  • Is witnessing genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan;
  • Is the epicenter of the HIV/AIDS pandemic;
  • Is home to more Muslims than the Middle East;
  • Is a place where our fight against terrorism is being fought;
  • Is increasingly influential in international political and economic organizations;
  • Is producing more oil;
  • Is home to magnificent and increasingly threatened natural resources.

Ed Royce (R) is serving his seventh term in Congress representing California's 40th District. A California native, Royce is a graduate of California State University, Fullerton, School of Business Administration. Ed and his wife Marie are longtime residents of Fullerton, CA.
