Commander Zinke gives a glimpse of Missions in Iraq

Commander Ryan Zinke USN

Executive Officer Naval Special Warfare Center

Naval Amphibious Base

Coronado, California

America’s unconventional warriors, known as special operation forces, have played a bigger role in Iraq, than in any war in recent history. Please join us in welcoming Commander Ryan Zinke, who has just returned from completion of Special Operations Missions in Iraq and Fallujah and will give his personal views of the Special Warfare operations. Hear and question Commander Zinke on the accomplishments and missions the Navy Seals have and continue to engage in during the war against terrorism. We also expect to have a number of Navy Seals accompany Cdr Zinke and serve as special guests at each table possible.

In Operation Iraqi Freedom, the Navy Seals were instrumental in securing much of the country’s oil infrastructure to avoid ecological catastrophe. Special Operation Forces, including Navy Seals, rescued Jessica Lynch from captivity at the Saddam hospital in Nasiriyah. Some of the unit’s missions also included protecting a key dam, finding and capturing remnant regime members and foreign terrorists, seizing enemy ordnance and searching for weapons of mass destruction. The Navy Seals can be asked to undertake the most complex and difficult missions in the remote and heavily guarded locations.

Commander Zinke graduated from the University of Oregon on a football scholarship and was an all Pac 10 award winner for 3 years as well as a recipient of several Scholar Athlete Awards. He attended the Officer Candidate School and then completed his Seal Training. He was deployed for a number of years in the Western Pacific including Japan and China, and engaged in Special Operations in the Middle East, Japan, China, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Commander Zinke is also the recipient of numerous service medals.
