SPAIN: “Stout Friend and Business Partner”
Honorable George Argyros
United States Ambassador to Spain

Monday, February 23, 2004

Leading the European nations who support the U.S. and Britain in Iraq, Spain has troops on the ground, provides aid and training for the new Iraqi military and backs plans to return sovereignty to the new Iraq this summer. Its Premier, Jose Maria Anzar, has presided over economic reforms that make the Iberian Peninsula with its vast experience of Latin America, a rapidly expanding market for California trade and investment.

What’s next in Spain when Jose Maria Aznar steps down next month? How will Spain deal with Basque terrorists, demands for regional autonomy, e.g. in Catalonia, and undocumented immigrants from North Africa?

Hear and question Ambassador Argyros who has represented the U.S. in Madrid during three years of tension between the U.S. and the European Union over trade, the Middle East and U.S. pre-emptive policies against Al Qaeda.
