Mr. Brasioli will share with the council Italy’s agenda for its six-month Tenure as President of the European Union.

Sr. Brasioli started his career as editor and director of the Italian National Television Network. In 1986 he joined the foreign service and served in the Italian Embassies in : Islamabad and Amman before he became Deputy Chief Of Mission in Beirut.

Between 1995 and 1999 he served as Deputy Director of the Middle East Desk at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome. As director he dealt extensively with the peace process in Iran, Libya and Iraq. Sr. Brasioli established Italy’s first official contact with Iraqi leadership after the Gulf War, which led to the reopening
Of an office of the Italian Government in Baghdad.

In 1997 Sr. Brasioli published a study on the issues of Jerusalem for an Italian periodical specializing in international affairs. To his credits he was also Published short stories for weekly Il Venerdi dei Repubblica and a novel Il Caffe’ Di Tarner, which was well received by both the public and literary critics.
