What’s Happening in
Britain?
Introduction by Sir Eldon Griffiths
Tony
Blair, in American eyes, seems to be riding high. Seen from the grass roots in Britain, his third term government
appears to be stumbling – the Prime Minister’s chairmanship of the G8
inconclusive, his presidency of the EU lacking in results on the budget and
expansion (e.g. Turkey), his cabinet divided on pensions, education and trade
union reforms.
Why are both leaders of the Anglo-American Alliance, President
Bush and Blair, in trouble at the same time? As Brits complain that Bush has
failed to reciprocate their support, e.g. in Iraq, are transatlantic relations
starting to fray - over trade relations, Blair’s push for third world debt
relief, the Middle east, and China?
With a new leader promising to revitalize Britain’s Conservative party, come
and hear insider comments from one of the most experienced Members of
Parliament, Tim Yeo, MP for South Suffolk.
Mr. Yeo’s experience:
Before entering Parliament, Tim Yeo Chaired two of Britain’s largest charities (helping children and disabled people), and advised UK banks. Captain of the Parliamentary golf team, he has a 9 handicap at the Ancient & Royal (St. Andrews) and writes the Financial Times’ widely followed golf column.
